By 8 am on Monday [September 26], the Saint Lucia Met Services confirmed a little over 20 mm of rainfall drenched the island's the south and about 12 mm affected the north. Less than an inch of rainfall triggered flooding and threatened lives, property and infrastructure throughout the island in less than one hour.
Climate change has intensified weather events rendering SIDs like Saint Lucia increasingly vulnerable to its detrimental effects. The Pierre Administration continues to appeal to the world's largest polluters to honour their climate financing commitments to save lives and livelihoods in countries on the frontlines of the global climate change emergency.
World leaders received Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre's appeal during his address to the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 23, 2022.
