Over 30 Benefit from Free First Aid and Lifesaving Skills Training in Canaries
By HTEC Cares Foundation
On Wednesday, August 24, 2022, the HTEC Cares Foundation embarked on a life-changing initiative, equipping over 30 residents from the Canaries community with First Aid and Lifesaving skills. HTEC Cares is the philanthropic arm of HTEC Management Solutions, a team of Human Resource Management and Training consultants operating in the Caribbean. The free workshop was made possible through a partnership with Rotaract Club of Gros-Islet and key community leaders.
According to Founder and Lead First Aid Instructor, Andre Cleghorn, “road and community accidents are one of the most frequent forms of death within the Caribbean. As per statistics, a victim’s life can be saved prior to the arrival of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) if first responders are equipped to deal with emergencies.”
Teffany Fletcher, President of the Rotaract Club of Gros-Islet says “Disaster preparedness is a major global challenge and one unique to small island states. This is one of the district’s themes this year, so when HTEC approached us with the idea to train residents across Saint Lucia, we were more than eager to accommodate them. We intend to make this an ongoing collaboration.”
The HTEC Cares Foundation is committed to interventions which promote safe and resilient communities in Saint Lucia. Beneficiaries of this workshop are now empowered to serve as guardians of the community to assist in case of an emergency.
The workshop follows a previous training of over 30 residents from Anse-La-Raye, and it is the Foundation's aim to work with other communities to achieve its target of training one hundred (100) citizens of Saint Lucia in Emergency First Response and First Aid life skills.
