Pledge 4 A Child Initiative- Educational Assistance Drive
By NYC
PRESS RELEASE - The Saint Lucia National Youth Council, as the parent organization for the National Students’ Council and other youth and student organizations, recognizes the effects of the abrupt closure of schools and displacement of students as a result of COVID-19. These situations caused students, families and Education Officials to transition to E-Learning at a rapid rate. As a result, many students did not have the necessary infrastructure and technological devices to access online learning. However, we have been quite pleased to see the laudable efforts being made by organizations and citizens to provide devices to students.
As the Saint Lucia National Youth Council, we feel obligated to assist in ensuring students across Saint Lucia have access to devices and other educational materials as we prepare for the September 2020 new academic year. Therefore, we are pleased to launch our educational assistance drive called “Pledge 4 A Child” which will commence in the form of a campaign on July 29th , 2020. The drive will culminate via a virtual telethon on August 16th , 2020 on NTN from 2:00 P.M- 6:00 P.M. which will feature a stellar cast of local youth entertainers. The virtual telethon will also provide the platform for individuals and Organizations both here and abroad to call in to pledge their support for this worthy cause.
This drive will seek to raise at least $150,000 XCD to provide basic school necessities such as but not limited to uniform, books, shoes and bags to at least two hundred (200) students; while a percentage will be allocated to providing tuition scholarships to at least twenty (20) SALCC students. We therefore encourage citizens and businesses both at home and in the diaspora to pledge that much needed support during the “Pledge 4 A Child” campaign via Bank of St. Lucia Account #101150355 and PayPal which details will be provided soon.
The Saint Lucia National Youth Council makes a special appeal to citizens to support this initiative as it is focused primarily on providing equal opportunities for every student, regardless of socio-economic background to fulfill their right to quality education in our country. We look forward to possible collaborations and the generosity of the public.
