Press Officer to opposition leader, Philip J. Pierre, has responded to SCO

By SLP

Yasmine ‘Yassy’ Hippolyte, the Press Officer to opposition leader, Philip J. Pierre, has responded to what she says was an attempt by the  Senior Communications Officer (SCO) for the government, Nicole Mc Donald, to defend the government’s poor record on health care and its failure to continue work on the St Jude Hospital.

In a statement to St Lucia Times, Hippolyte asserted that the SLP never stopped work on the St.Jude Hospital because it was mindful of the plight of staff and patients at the George Odlum Stadium. She said the goal was to open  St.Jude Hospital at the soonest possible time.

According to the Press Officer, the UWP demonstrated bad faith and questionable motives when they concealed the St.Jude Hospital Handover report by consultants appointed by the UWP, which gave the exact situation of  the health care institution.

“A caring government would have disclosed the report and not discarded it,” Hippolyte declared.

“The audit commissioned by the UWP states clearly that the building can serve its purpose as a hospital. Hon Guy Joseph did say on Monday May 7th 2018 on Kairi FM that in excess of $12 M would be spent on St.Jude.
The Leader of the Opposition insists that this should be spent on the St.Jude building and only the most necessary repairs be done to the George Odlum stadium.”

Hippolyte accused Nicole Mc Donald of adding to the confusion and half-truths that continue to be the UWP rhetoric on St.Jude.

“The SLP calls on the government not to privatize the OKEU and continue work on St.Jude so that the plight of the patients and staff at St.Jude would be improved,” she stated.
