Prevention of political violence and victim assistance guide national reconciliation

By AVN

The creation of mechanisms that strengthen the attention to the victims and the prevention of new episodes of political violence are part of the process of national reconciliation promoted by the Executive, which recommended to State bodies the granting of procedural benefits that, so far, have been received 80 people judged for actions perpetrated between 2014 and 2018.

Of that amount, 95% was being criminally prosecuted, said Thursday the president of the Truth, Justice, Peace and Public Peace Commission, Delcy Rodriguez, before the National Constituent Assembly (ANC).

In the plenipotentiary instance a balance of the granting of benefits was presented, ranging from full liberties, precautionary measures of presentation, prohibition to leave the country and alternative formulas for the enforcement of sentences, measures that are aimed at "preserving, caring for, preventing and guaranteeing that facts like these do not happen again in the country, "said Rodriguez.

In her speech, she explained that the commission has interviewed 681 victims, she has also talked with perpetrators and alleged perpetrators and she has recorded testimonies of people who were used for violence for political purposes.

"The people who participated in these events at the time were experiencing a situation of socio-economic vulnerability, they were paid to generate violence for political purposes but with a higher purpose that was to generate the intervention of foreign countries," she said. ANC.

Rodriguez also asked the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) for the appointment of special prosecutors to assist victims and cases related to acts of political violence.

In this regard, she mentioned that it is necessary to continue articulating efforts to resolve cases such as the murders of the leader Eliezer Otaiza Castillo and the journalist Ricardo Duran.

Victims bet for peace

Relatives of victims of political violence attended the presentation of the report of the Truth Commission, which ratified on Thursday their support for the actions being taken by the President of the Republic, Nicolas Maduro, to move towards national reconciliation.

Maite García, member of the Front Against the "Sicariato Campesino", emphasized that this process shows loyalty, love and commitment to the country.

"It is necessary, dear brothers and sisters, forgiveness and is our President (Nicolas Maduro), once, who gives us an example and reaches out his hand and puts his heart at the service of reunion among brothers who are us, brothers that we can have differences but talking about , dialoguing and recognizing we can move towards productive dialogue in a loving, respectful way, "he said.

Also in this session, Zoraida Bravo, mother of the captain of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) Ramzor Ernesto Bracho, assassinated in 2014 during vandalism, exhorted the Venezuelans to support these actions promoted by the State.

"I ask all people to support these measures of peace, dialogue in our country," she said while advocating for national peace.

Desireé Cabrera, another member of the Committee, thanked the ANC for accompanying this fundamental process to open the way to reconciliation and stressed that the process will continue.

"The Committee will continue with that: seeking justice because we want peace and reconciliation in the country, that's what we are for," she said.

A revolutionary lesson

In the session of this Thursday Adan Chavez intervened, who indicated that the actions recently taken in Venezuela in favor of peace and national stability are a sign of strength that pays tribute to the principles bequeathed by the commander Hugo Chavez.

He said that the fundamental leader of the Bolivarian Revolution stood firm in the face of any circumstance in the path of peace, dialogue and agreement, a path outlined, he stressed on April 17th, 1997, when "we decided to go to the seizure of political power to bring profound changes through the electoral process, "he recalled.

However, the constituent called people to be alert, because the violence, the coup of States and the attempts to reissue them are part of a plan conceived and imposed by the North American empire, which, he stressed, does not rest for imposing itself.

"Violence did not come from nothing (...) it was not a coincidence, it is a well-established plan, coordinated by the empire, it is a plan of the empire and its allies".
