Prime Minister Pierre Addresses Lucian Crowd In London

By OPM

Prime Minister Phillip J Pierre is on a three-day visit to The United Kingdom where he addressed the St Lucian diaspora in the East London Borough of Hackney.

During his address to a patriotic crowd in Hackney Town Hall PM Pierre said that he was happy to engage the community in London.

"I was pleased to engage with the familiar and new faces at our Town hall today in London. The Diaspora represents our surest market presence in the global village and your commitment to our country is appreciated.

Saint Lucians living in the Diaspora play such an active role in the development of our country through remittances, charities, investment, and knowledge and skills-sharing." PM Pierre who is visiting with foreign minister Mr. Alva Baptiste and ambassador for diaspora affairs Mr. Julian Dubois, said.

Scores of people from all over the British capital attended the grand event where the PM was warmly welcomed and made to feel at home.

"As a Government, we are working diligently to design a Diaspora Investment Programme as many of you have expressed a desire to explore gainful investment opportunities at home.

Cabinet has made a decision to extend Saint Lucian citizenship to the children of second-generation Saint Lucians in the Diaspora so they too can have a stake in our country's development." St Lucia's youthful and charismatic leader said.

PM Pierre took time out to answer questions from the audience after his impassioned speech. "He reached out to us like never before. He was on point and very humble." said an attendee. "Our island has a fine Prime Minister who can lead and reach out to the people. We love him."

"Now we have a leader, Oh yes He puts the people first." said another member of the crowd. "He is articulate and polished."

PM Pierre called on the diaspora to start investing in the island." Now is the right time to buy a property in the country." he said. "You are our best ambassadors and I look forward to us  remaining engaged and exploring opportunities that will benefit our beloved country."

The atmosphere was convivial and the crowd was treated to some fine dining featuring St Lucian culinary delights afterwards with music in the background.

Pm Pierre is expected to return back to St Lucia on Tuesday October 17.
