Results of Presidential Elections in Venezuela on May 20 th 2018

The election held on Sunday May 20th, 2018, in Venezuela, was the 24th election held in the last 20 years and the fourth held in the past 10 months. The process was to elect the President of the Republic and representatives to the Regional Legislative Councils. The candidate for the Broad Front of the Homeland, Nicolas Maduro, won with a percentage close to 68% of the votes, compared to the 22% of his closest contender Henry Falcón, candidate of the Venezuelan opposition.
It should be noted that barely four hours after the end of the electoral event, the President of the National Electoral Council was already announcing to the whole country and the world, the results with irreversible tendencies, as a result of the transmission of 92% of the voting records, which demonstrated the high standard of effectiveness and reliability of the Venezuelan electoral system.
By Monday, May 21st, 2018 at noon, the National Electoral Council of Venezuela, was already issuing its second bulletin updating the results with 98.78% of the votes counted showing candidate Nicolas Maduro with a total of 6,190.612 votes against 1,917,036 votes for the opposition candidate, Henry Falcón.
For this electoral process, a total of 9,132,655 voters attended the polls, which represents a participation percentage of 46.02% with respect to the total of the Venezuelan electoral registry (20,526,978).
Elections were held under a climate of absolute peace, between 6:00am and 6:00pm; 14,638 voting centres were activated nationwide, with 34,143 operating polling stations. Likewise, more than 684,000 officials of the Bolivarian Armed Forces and State security forces were deployed throughout the national territory, within the framework of the Republic Plan, to guarantee the development of the electoral process in a climate of total security, normality and peace.
According to Tibisay Lucena, the highest representative of the Electoral Power, more than 150 international guests, including judges, parliamentarians, academics, politicians, intellectuals, electoral experts from Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa and from North America attended these elections.
In that regard, the members of the Council of Electoral Experts of Latin America (CEELA), announced on Monday May 21st, the report of activities carried out during the election, in which they stated that the election of the President of the Republic and of the members of the State Legislative Councils met international standards and national legislation. Likewise, the President of (CEELA) Nicanor Moscoso, said that these elections should be recognized, because they are the result of the popular will and reflect the sum of votes cast by each of the voters who came to vote.
Immediately after the first results were known, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and re-elected candidate, announced the call for an immediate national dialogue process, with the candidates who participated in the elections and with various sectors of the country, to continue with the efforts to solve the economic situation of the country. President Maduro said: "We have shown the world that the Venezuelan people are a people of peace, who prefer to solve their problems internally without foreign interference, for this reason we demand respect from the governments of the continent and the rest of the world, as well as of the institutions and multilateral organizations, to respect the decision of the Venezuelan people".
