Review and evaluation of Fond St. Jacques Agro-Tourism Park underway

The Fond St. Jacques Agro-tourism Park will provide an avenue for local and international tourists to experience a high-quality value chain from the soil to the palette. The initiative aims to create employment and encourage sustainable management of natural resources while providing visitors with an authentic cultural and gastronomic experience.
The review of agro-tourism park assessed the progress made toward the development of the park setting clear objectives and actions for its establishment andopening.
The prospective offerings of the agrotourism park will include gastronomic adventures with traditional cuisine based on local fruits and vegetables as well as options for hiking and camping, waterfall excursions, and farm to table tours. Hon. Emma Hippolyte, Parliamentary Representative for Soufriere, emphasized the importance of community engagement in ensuring the success of the agro-tourism industry.

In accordance with the mandate of the Department of Forestry's Ecotourism and environmental education program, as well as sustainable land and forest management efforts, several initiatives will be carried out under the project including slope stabilization, upgraded trails and improved waterquality in watersheds.
Chief Forestry Officer, Alwin Donelly, has been working closely with the Fond St. Jacques Development Committee to provide all of the necessary support to ensure the project's success while also protecting Saint Lucia's natural resources.
According to the Minister for Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information Hon. Ernest Hilaire, the project builds on the foundation of the recently passed Community Tourism Development Bill, which expands opportunities for local residents to earn additional income and provides a channel for direct marketing to consumers.

The Fond St. Jacques Agro Tourism Park is scheduled to open later this year, and will be managed by the Fond St. Jacque Development Committee.
