Revocation of Water Related Emergency

By Ministry of Agriculture

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Rural Development through the Water Resources Management Agency (WRMA) takes this opportunity to inform the public that Statutory Instrument, No.76 of 2024 [Water and Sewerage (Water-Related Emergency) (Declaration) Order] has been revoked. The Revocation order is effective from July 30, 2024. Significant improvement in water availability had been observed in many water supply systems across the island including the John Compton Dam.

Please note that the dry season begins in three (3) months and as restrictions for the use of potable water have been lifted, the WRMA reminds all that water conservation practices should still be adhered to and implemented. Extreme weather variability and Climate Change are key factors of recent extreme dry spells. The Agency encourages:

  1. Limit of the use of potable water for non-potable uses.
  2. The augmentation of water volumes on a household level through “Rain Water Harvesting.” This will help to fill the water supply gap when, or in areas WASCO is unable to consistently supply potable water.

We thank you for your understanding and support during the period for which the water related emergency was in force and once again ask that you continue to take measures to ensure a consistent water supply year-round.
