Russia: It is counterproductive and illegal to press and sanction Venezuela economically

By AVN

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Alexander Pankin, described as "counterproductive" and "illegal" the application of new sanctions by the United States Government against Venezuela, after the election of Nicolas Maduro as president for the period 2019-2025.

The most recent ones were imposed on Monday, when President Donald Trump signed an executive order that prohibits any US citizen, institution or company from acquiring Venezuelan public debt or assets and property in order to financially block the ability to liquidate assets in US territory.

"It is counterproductive to try to change the Venezuelan situation and to press with the threat of sanctions or economic threats, and it is illegal from the point of view of international law," the deputy minister said.

In statements offered in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he participates in the meeting of foreign ministers of the G20, the diplomatic representative criticized, in addition, the strong positions against Venezuela of several Latin American governments aligned to the US president, Donald Trump.

"We know that many neighboring countries are taking a tough position, I do not want to say that it is not an independent position, but it goes in unison with the way Washington would like to formulate and promote it, this is the reality," said the Russian deputy minister.

Representatives of the governments of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the United States, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Saint Lucia, through a statement, announced their intention to ignore the event election this Sunday.
