Saint Lucia Athletics Association marks successful 2025 Laureate Challenge 5K

The Saint Lucia Athletics Association in collaboration with the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, proudly announces the successful completion of the 2025 Laureate Challenge 5K held on Sunday, 2nd February 2025. The event commemorated Saint Lucia’s two esteemed Nobel Laureates, Sir Arthur Lewis and Sir Derek Walcott, celebrating their legacy through fitness, community, and cultural pride.

The race saw participation from approximately 50 runners across various age categories and fitness levels. Beginning at the Derek Walcott Square and concluding at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College’s Morne Campus, the challenging yet scenic route provided the perfect setting for an inspiring competition.

Top Finishers: In the Male Category, Neville Dupre of Mercury Athletics Club claimed the first-place title with an impressive time of 19:33.06; followed closely by Donson Stanley from Soufriere Athletics Club (19:50.71); and Gerald Charles from Road Busters Athletics Club (22:14.05).

In the female category, Makalia Olivierre of Road Busters Athletics Club dominated the race with a time of 31:17.61; while Sheba Jn Pierre of Road Busters Club finished in 31:19.61; and Jayla Sayers from Morne Stars Athletics Club secured third place with 32:20.75.

Special Awards and Recognition: In addition to the main winners, special awards were presented for the following categories:

  • Youngest Participant: Gavri’el Daniel, 9 years old (overall placement: 7th with a time of 27:35.98s)
  • Oldest Participant: Charles Sayers, 72 years old (overall placement: 28th with a time of 36:03.28s)

Special recognition goes to Trophy Centre, Blue Waters, Bank of Saint Lucia Ltd and Eden Styles for their invaluable support. The Association also commend the efforts of race officials, St. Lucia Fire Service and the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force for ensuring a safe and well-organized event.
