Saint Lucia car port coming soon

The Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) is pleased to announce the upcoming Solar PV Carport Project at Hewanorra International Airport (HIA), which marks a significant step in our commitment to sustainability and innovation. This project will commence soon and contribute to a greener and more energy-efficient airport environment.
Project Overview
The project will feature:
- A 430 kWp solar photovoltaic (PV) array to generate renewable energy.
- Two 50kW+ Level 3 EV chargers to support electric vehicle usage.
- LED under-carport lighting for improved illumination and energy efficiency.
- Twenty-six solar streetlights to enhance safety and visibility around the airport.

- Funding Agency: Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar
- Contractor: Smart Energy
- Client/Beneficiary: St Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA)
- Government Partner: Ministry of Infrastructure, Ports, Transport, Physical Development and Urban Renewal
Project Timeline:
- Contract Signed: 27th December, 2023
- Project Kick-Off (Construction): 24th March, 2025
- Estimated Duration: 4-5 months
Project Benefits: This initiative aligns with our strategic goals for sustainable development and energy efficiency.
The project will:
- Reduce HIA’s carbon footprint by harnessing renewable solar energy, lowering emissions, and promoting environmental sustainability.
- Lower electricity costs by decreasing dependency on LUCELEC and improving passenger experience with modern lighting and EV charging stations.
