By Josiah G.A Bicette/SNN
In a busy night for emergency responders, the Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) was called to the scene of several road accidents, transporting four individuals to the hospital for medical treatment.
The flurry of incidents began with a distress call at approximately 7:09 pm reporting an overturned bus in Castries, carrying twelve passengers. SLFS emergency personnel swiftly arrived at the scene and transported one female passenger to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Shortly thereafter, at around 8:00 pm, the Gros Islet fire station received reports of a three-vehicle collision at Corinth involving five individuals. Responders, backed by additional support from fire service headquarters in Castries, attended to the scene and transported three victims to the hospital. Fortunately, all were reported to be in stable condition.
The overnight emergency response continued into the early hours of Wednesday morning when a motorcyclist sustained injuries in a separate road accident at Bocage, Castries. Though private transportation conveyed the individual to the hospital, SLFS personnel were prepared to provide assistance if needed.
In total, the SLFS responded to approximately six road accidents between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, underscoring the importance of vigilance and caution on the roads. While most incidents did not result in serious injuries, the SLFS remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all road users.
Since the beginning of the year, Saint Lucia has recorded four road fatalities, highlighting the ongoing need for road safety measures and heightened awareness among motorists and pedestrians alike.
As road accidents continue to pose a risk to public safety, the SLFS urges all individuals to exercise caution while traveling and to adhere to traffic laws and regulations. By working together to promote road safety, we can help prevent accidents and protect lives on Saint Lucia's roads.
