THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF PARTIES IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MONITORING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE UN FRAMEWORK ON CLIMATE CHANGE.
The Conference of Parties will host its 27th meeting from Nov. 6 to 18, in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt. The Conference of Parties, known as COP, is the decision-making body responsible for monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Sustainable Development and Environment Officer within the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Jermaine Missole, recently spoke about the goals of COP 27 and emphasized the importance of the meeting in seeking bold and immediate action in addressing climate change.
She explained that countries collectively aim to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions, while developed countries have been tasked with assisting developing countries in better adapting to climate change.
COP 27 will be focusing, in part, on solutions for adaptation, including strategies for managing climate risks and building resilience. There will also be specific focus on how to scale the solutions required, on meeting the growing food demand, addressing water scarcity, and building climate-resilient cities and infrastructure.
