Saint Lucia Records 68 New Cases of Covid-19 and 2 deaths

PRESS RELEASE – The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs today Thursday, September 30, 2021, confirms a total of sixty-eight (68) new cases of COVID-19. These cases were processed on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at the Ezra Long Laboratory from a total of 373 samples which were collected between September 28 and 29, 2021.

This number of positive cases makes up 18.2% of all the samples processed on that date. These new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in- country to date to 11, 527.

The Ministry of Health also reports one (1) new COVID-19 death and one (1) new COVID-19 related death. All of these deaths occurred during the period September 25, 2021 to September 28, 2021. To date, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in country is 156 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 45.

COVID-19 death #156 is a 44 year old male from the Castries district. COVID-19 related death #45 is a 76 year old male from the Micoud district. The Ministry of Health extends condolences to the bereaved families, friends and loved ones of all of these individuals.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 57 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the number of active cases in-country to 1,548. Three (3) individuals are in critical state while twelve (12) others are severely ill at the Respiratory Hospital.

To date, a total of 35,992 individuals have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 29,633 have received the second dose. A total of 9,980 individuals have received the first dose and 2,905 individuals have received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Vaccinations will continue tomorrow Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Jacmel Wellness Center, Gros- Islet Human Resource Center, Soufriere Hospital, St Anthony Medical Center at the Sunny Acres, Castries location and Inno Care on Clarke Street, Vieux Fort. Vaccinations are scheduled for distribution at all sites from 9 am to 4pm.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs will continue providing daily updates to the public as new information becomes available.
