SALCC students and laureates in focus for Nobel Laureate Festival 2022

It begins with the Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Lecture to be delivered by Dr. Gervan Fearon, President of George Brown College in Toronto. The title of his lecture is ‘The Future of Economic Growth and Development: Sir Arthur Lewis in the Twenty First Century.’ The lecture will be livestreamed via the Government of Saint Lucia YouTube and Facebook pages on Thursday, 20 January 2022, from 7:30 pm from the Finance Administrative Centre at Pointe Seraphine.

The Wreath Laying Ceremony for the two Nobel Laureates, both buried on the historic grounds surrounding the campus will take place on Friday, January 21, at 10:00 am.

This year's keynote speech will be delivered by economist, Dr. Claudius Preville.

Following the Wreath Laying Ceremony, the programme will continue at 12 noon with an Open House at the Derek Walcott Library featuring the unveiling of the Derek Walcott Hub on the SALCC Nobel Laureate Portal and literary performances by students, colleagues and friends of the Walcott family.

The exposition of creativity continues with the students of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College screening their production PANDEMIC DIARIES a play/docudrama featuring reflections on the realities of COVID-19. PANDEMIC DIARIES will be presented by the SALCC Creative and Performing Arts Club via Facebook, YouTube and Local TV stations on Sunday, January 23, Nobel Laureate Day from 6:00 pm.

The final event to be hosted by the Sir Arthur Community College for the Nobel Laureate Festival 2022 will be the finals of the WORRRD UP Poetry Slam. It will feature lively competition among the TOP EIGHT youth poets who survived the preliminary rounds in late 2021. The public is invited to join the buzz by voting for their favourite poet for the People’s Choice Award via the College’s Facebook and Instagram pages. The poetry slam will be broadcast live from the National Cultural Center on Friday, January 28, 2022.
