SDA calls for all hands on deck to fight crime

by SNN

The St.Lucian mission of SDA expresses concern over the spirit of crime and violent behavior currently being experienced on the island.

The president of the mission Roger Stephen says '' it is affecting every citizen on the island, it affects the church for example our pastors have to do so much more in counseling the families of the perpetrators as well as the families who have lost loved ones.''

''We are seeing so much heart aches, we have quite a lot of counseling to do,the funeral services are so many and we really want to appeal as a church to those persons who believe that violence and the weapons is the answer it will never be the answer.'' he added.

He also said that ''what we need and what we have been speaking of as a church is what God and the bible teaches.''

He believes that the island requires a holistic effort from all sections of society if there is to be a change, he highlights proper parenting as one of the bigger challenges in addressing crime.

The Gros Islet sub division in conjunction with the Ministry of Equity, Social Justice and Empowerment will be hosting a 'Policing my community forum'  where organizers have invited proprietors  of businesses in the Gros Islet district to discuss matters about safety and security.
