Security Concerns Arise as Masked Individuals Disrupt Ciceron Secondary School

In a shocking and deeply concerning incident on Wednesday, the tranquility of Ciceron Secondary School was shattered when three masked individuals wielding machetes entered the premises at approximately 2:45 p.m. The presence of these intruders traumatized both teachers and students, leaving the educational community in shock.

According to initial reports, the masked individuals appeared to be searching for a specific male within the school compound. Their disruptive actions escalated as they hurled a bottle, resulting in what seemed to be minor injuries to a female student. Don Howell, the President of the Saint Lucia Teachers Union (SLTU), expressed grave concern over the incident, emphasizing the urgent need for improved school security. In a statement to reporters, Howell recounted the distressing experience and the impact it had on both educators and students, causing trauma within the school community.

The SLTU President called for an emergency meeting with the Ministry of Education, demanding concrete measures to enhance security at Ciceron Secondary School. Howell stressed that the union would not allow its members to operate under unsafe conditions and insisted on tangible action to rectify the situation.

"We will do what is necessary to ensure our members feel safe at work," Howell asserted, underlining the critical importance of a secure and conducive environment for both teachers and students.

The SLTU has requested a debriefing at the school, seeking clarification on the incident and advocating for comprehensive security measures. Howell urged all education stakeholders to join forces in advocating for improved school security across Saint Lucia.
