The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) proudly reported a remarkable 27% reduction in narcotics-related charges during 2023 compared to the previous year. This accomplishment stands out despite an overall increase in violent crime, showcasing the effectiveness of law enforcement efforts.
According to Corporal Travius Mathurin of the RSLPF, data collected from police stations island-wide highlights the success in curbing drug-related incidents. A total of 167 drug-related cases were reported in 2023, with the southern part of the island contributing 100 of these cases.
Further analysis revealed that a majority of these cases involved charges related to the intent to supply or the unlawful possession of cannabis. Corporal Mathurin emphasized the significance of addressing these specific aspects of narcotics-related crimes.
Efficient law enforcement responses led to the resolution of 132 out of the 167 reported cases, showcasing a high clearance rate. The RSLPF hierarchy attributes this success to the dedication and effectiveness of the police force in addressing the complexities of narcotics-related offenses.
