SLNYC Congratulates the NCPD on the ratification of the UN Convention

Press Release – The Saint Lucia National Youth Council recognizes the recent success of the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) in championing the rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Their efforts paid off on June 11th, 2020 with Saint Lucia’s ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The years of hard work and advocacy by the NCPD, led by President Mr.Merphilus James continues to pave the way for greater support for and engagement with their community.

The NCPD continues to work diligently in catering to the needs of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in Saint Lucia, and the ratification of the UN Convention will further legitimize their standing and foster inclusion of PWD within our society.

The agreement also bolsters our national efforts towards the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goal 10 – Reduced Inequalities.

The SLNYC joins the NCPD in acknowledging this momentous occasion.

We pledge our support to the PWD Community to ensure that the best environments are provided to facilitate the empowerment of all Saint Lucians.
