SLOC Inc. Mourns Passing of Sports Administrator

The Executive Board of the St.
Lucia Olympic Committee (SLOC) Inc. mourns the passing of well-known sports
administrator, Mr. Wayne Burton, who died on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.

At the time of his passing, Burton was the Secretary of the St. Lucia Athletics Association
(SLAA). However, he served on the Executive Board of SLOC Inc. some years ago.
Not only will Burton be remembered for his great insight and contributions at SLOC Inc.
meetings, but also for his willingness to serve on sub-committees. As part of Olympic Week
activities in 2022 and 2023, he was instrumental on securing the plants on SLOC Inc.’s behalf
for its tree-planting exercises at schools. He was also part of the team that visited the schools for
these exercises.
In fact, on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, Burton was part of the SLOC Inc. team who joined teachers
and students from four selected schools within the Castries basin to plant fruit and ornament
trees on their school premises. While there, he was very engaging with the students and teachers,
urging them to plant more fruit trees.
The Executive Board of the St. Lucia Olympic Committee (SLOC) Inc. expresses condolences to
the family, relatives and friends of Mr. Wayne Burton. We certainly value and will remember the
outstanding contributions he has made to Saint Lucia’s sporting landscape.
