SLP boasts achievements by the Government

By SLP

Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre’s end-of-year press conference closes the curtains on a year overflowing with Labour Love seen in the government’s emphasis on workers’ rights, infrastructure, youth, healthcare and prudent management of the country’s economy.

Under the flagship “Year of Infrastructure” theme for 2024/2025, this Labour
government has commenced the single largest road infrastructure agenda in recent history. Hundreds are currently employed in projects, ranging from large to small, across the island. It is therefore no surprise that the unemployment rate has fallen to an all-time low of 11.8% in Quarter Three of 2024.

To date, over 3000 young persons have benefited from the Labour government’s Youth Economy Agency, which is promoting professional growth and development among the many skilled and talented youth of Saint Lucia.
This Labour government is also investing significant levels of resources in healthmcare to bring the sector closer to being able to meet the expectations of the populace.

The government is demonstrating its commitment to the sector by making millions in payments against the OKEU Hospital’s debts, adding a new emergency room at the Dr Winston Paris Medical Facility (formerly Victoria Hospital) and obtaining financing for the total completion of the St. Jude Hospital by middle of 2025.

Farmers and fishers are eating a slice of the “good governance cake”. Since assuming office, this Labour Administration has continued providing monetary relief to farmers after adverse weather systems. Most recently, $430,000 was paid to 38 licensed boatowners in Soufriere as part of relief efforts after the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

Just weeks ago, 1000 Registered farmers received water storage tanks from the government to help them increase their ability to store water in light of worsening droughts.

In a show of empathy for workers, Your Labour Government established Saint Lucia’s first-ever minimum wage legislation coming into force on August 1st, 2024

–Emancipation Day. At $6.52 an hour ($1130 a month), Saint Lucian employees can hold their heads high knowing they are entitled a fair day’s wage for a fair day’s work. A perfect end to 2024 was this government’s payment of a $500 Christmas bonus to public servants and government pensioners.

Under the leadership of the Saint Lucia Labour Party’s political leader, Honourable Philip J. Pierre, all sectors of our country benefited in one way or the other. Your Labour Government is leading with expert ease, guiding us into calmer waters for the years to come.
