The Soufriere Super League kicked off with an exciting doubleheader at the Mini Stadium last
Wednesday. The first match was a nail-biter between Jade Mountain and Ladera, ending in a 1-
0 victory for Jade Mountain, thanks to a first-half penalty by RJ Dennis. Both teams created
numerous chances, with Ladera's danger man, Darrel, causing problems throughout the match.
Despite their efforts, Ladera was unable to capitalize on their opportunities. Jade Mountain, on
the other hand, kept the pressure on, but Ladera’s goalkeeper delivered a standout
performance to keep the match close. After 90 minutes of intense football, Jade Mountain
secured the three points.
The second match featured tournament favorites Sugar Beach against underdogs Hotel
Chocolat. Sugar Beach quickly showed why they are favored to win, dominating possession and
controlling the game from the start. Melchoir Jn Baptiste put Sugar Beach ahead with a great
strike in the 10th minute. Hotel Chocolat struggled initially but found their rhythm towards the
end of the first half. In the second half, after some substitutions, Chocolat looked more
dangerous. A penalty awarded to Shawn Biscette was converted by center-back Tevez Brandis,
who put in a man-of-the-match performance. However, with just five minutes remaining and the
game looking set to end in a draw, Shermar Simone of Sugar Beach scored a spectacular
overhead bicycle kick, sealing a 2-1 victory and breaking the hearts of Chocolat supporters.
