St Lucia Junior Carnival Kicks Off with The Inter School Calypso Competition

Saint Lucia’s Junior Carnival Season commenced on Friday 9 th June 2023 with then return of the Inter School Calypso Competition. The event is geared at aiding young people in developing their skills as competent performing artists.
The competition included students from both primary and secondary schools around the island representing their academic institutions through the performance of original calypso
songs penned by their chaperones.
Herma Demacque, Public Relations Assistant With the Carnival Planning Committee stated , “ This is the first inter school calypso competition to take place after covid 19.
We are very excited to bring this competition back because it does not only help our future calypsonians, but our future artists as a whole. Many of the contestants in the past for example Ti Blacks and our very own Dezeral Long have started on a school
level. And we are trying to help develop a path for our next upcoming artists of the future.”
The Competition took place in two parts. Primary schools in the morning and
secondary schools in the afternoon.
