St Lucia recorded 115 new cases of Covid and 2 deaths

PRESS RELEASE – The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs today Wednesday August 25, 2021 confirms a total of 115 new cases of COVID-19. These cases were processed at the Ezra Long Laboratory on Tuesday August 24, 2021 from a batch of 364 samples.
These cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 7536.
The Ministry of Health also reports two new COVID-19 related deaths. To date, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in country is 71 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 30. COVID-19 related death #29 is a 25 year old male from the Vieux-Fort district. COVID-19 related death #30 is a 76 year old female from the Castries district.
The Ministry of Health sympathizes with the family, friends and loved ones of these individuals.
Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 59 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the total number of active cases currently in country to date to 1600. Three of the active cases are in critical care at the Respiratory Hospital.
On Monday, August 23, 2021 the Ministry of Health commenced the administering of the Pfizer vaccine. In accordance with the World Health Organization’s recommendations for the administering of the Pfizer vaccine, Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination is available to individuals aged 12 years and older.
Following the commencement of Pfizer vaccination in Saint Lucia, a total of 621 first doses and 16 second doses have been administered. Individuals who received their first dose of either the AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccine in another jurisdiction can received their second dose in Saint Lucia once the appropriate vaccination record can be presented to health officials.
Tomorrow Thursday, August 26, 2021 the COVID-19 vaccines will be given at the Beanfield Secondary School in Vieux-Fort, the Vigie Sports Complex in Castries and People’s Discount on St. Louis Street by appointment only. The vaccine is also available at the various wellness centers around the island free of charge.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness will continue providing daily updates to the public as new information becomes available.
