St Lucia records 11 new cases of covid

The Ministry of Health and Wellness on Saturday, March 27, 2021, received confirmation of 11 new cases of COVID-19 from the Ezra Long Laboratory. These results are from a batch of 192 samples taken during March 25 to March 26, 2021. The samples were processed on March 26, 2021. These individuals were seen at various community respiratory clinics where they were assessed and tested for COVID-19.
In keeping with the COVID-19 testing protocol, they were each placed in home quarantine by healthcare practitioners while awaiting the return of their COVID-19 test results. Arrangements have since been made to place these individuals in isolation.
The contact tracing for these new cases is currently underway. Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 8 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the total number of active cases currently recorded in country to date to 116.
Presently, two of the active cases require critical care at the Respiratory Hospital.
The new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 4,202.
The Ministry of Health is pleased to announce as of March 26, 2021, a total of 21,494 individuals have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Saint Lucia. The COVID-19 vaccination drive continues this week at various sites in the north and south of the island. Today, Monday, March 29, 2021, the health team will be administering the COVID-19 vaccine at the Daren Sammy Cricket Grounds and the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux-Fort. Everyone interested in getting vaccinated are encouraged to pre-register ahead of time via the online platform https://hmi.govt.lc/ or at the Community Wellness Centre nearest to you.
Let us all be mindful of adopting behaviors and habits which will help to reduce our exposure to the COVID-19 virus.
We all need to continue practicing the infection prevention and control guidelines. This includes hand hygiene; use of a face mask in public covering the mouth, nose and chin; maintaining a distance from others; and using a bleach solution to sanitize frequently touched surfaces and handled objects.
