St. Lucian charged with murder in hit-and-run at Portsmouth

A St. Lucian man, who attempted to evade the police following a hit and run in Portsmouth is now remanded into custody at the Dominica State Prison following a charge of murder preferred against him.
Nicholas Kenson Antoine of Babonneau, St. Lucia now stands charged with the murder of 33-year-old Al Samora Knight of Zicack Portsmouth.
On Saturday 11, March 2023, about 6:40 p.m., Knight was standing on the western side of a public road β Holland Street β in Zicack Portsmouth, when he was struck by a motor vehicle, Police Inspector Fixton Henderson reported.
βThe driver of that motor vehicle failed to bring the vehicle to a stop after the collision and drove away from the scene. The driver is currently being sought by the police,β he stated.
Inspector Henderson further disclosed that after the collision, Knight was found lying on the street with apparent serious head injuries.
He was transported to the Reginald Fitzroy Armour Hospital in Portsmouth via ambulance, where he was examined and pronounced dead by a medical doctor that same evening, according to Henderson.
Upon further investigation of the matter, Dominica News Online (DNO) can now confirm that the suspect who was being sought by the police, was arrested and charged with murder.
Antoine was apprehended by the police March 15, 2023, in Picard Portsmouth and at the conclusion of the police investigation, a charge of murder was instituted against him on March 17, 2023.
The St. Lucian man was subsequently taken to the Magistrate Court at Wesley where the charge was read to him.
He was not required to enter a plea since murder is an indictable offense which is expected to be heard at the High court of justice before a Judge and jury.
