Supporting Sports: SLOC Delivers Financial Boost to Sporting Associations

The Saint Lucia Olympic Committee recently hosted a press conference/ breifing on the morning of September 12 th 2023. The Conference served as the occasion for the issuance of support cheques to different sporting Associations from around the island. These cheques are given to the groups to help them in funding their teams when participating in events and for training. With the Olympic Games being held in Paris France next year, many community sports groups are working very hard towards getting their athletes qualified at the national level.

During the press conference, Mr. Alfred Emmanuel ,President of Saint Lucia Olympic Association ( SLOC) stated,
“ As a reminder to all Organisations , The SLOC is not to be used as an ATM or a last resort to receive funding for events. All groups are to send in their calendar of events, so that we can have an estimate of how much money is needed for the specific group. These cheques being given today will help groups by giving them a small boost in qualifying for the olympics.”

The Groups that received cheques were:

St.Lucia Athletic Association - $5000.00
St.Lucia Body Building & Fitness Association $9500.00
St.Lucia Aquatic Federation $6000.00
Table Tennis Association $6000.00

The SLOC has spent a total of $2.5 Million for 2023 in support of local athletes.
