By Castries Lions Club
Today, April 22, 2023, in observance of Earth day the members of the Tema Greenwich Lions Club of Ghana embarked on the ambitious project of restoring and preserving the Sakuma Ramsar Site to acceptable International Standards. This project comprised the planting of five hundred (500) trees to preserve the wetlands. The Club strengthen the Bond with the Castries Lions and planted a tree in honour of Lion Beatrice, one in honour of Lions Cynthia another for the Friendship with the Castries Lions Club and one in honour of the Lions of Saint Lucia. The Castries Lions are grateful for the honour and look forward to one day visiting the wetlands and bonding with our trees.
The Sakumo Ramsar Site also known as the Sakumo Lagoon is a wetland of international importance. It covers an area of 1,400 hectares (3,500 acres) and is situated along the costal road between Accra and Tema in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana . It is about 3 km west of Tema. Activities ongoing with the site include farming, fishing, recreation, urban and industrial development.
We say a big Thank You to the Tema Greenwich Lions Club for that honour. Together we are Stronger, Together we can – in bonds of Friendship and Service.
