The coronavirus which has infected more than 106 million people worldwide likely jumped from an animal to humans.

That’s the conclusion of the World Health Organization (WHO) team which has been conducting an investigation in Wuhan, China where the virus was first discovered.

The team is the first step in figuring out the origins of the virus which is believed to have started in bats before being passed to humans through another species of wild animals, such as the bamboo rat, which is considered a delicacy by some in China.

More than 2.3 million people have been killed by the coronavirus globally, with the US leading fatalities with over 465,000 deaths.
