In a press release posted Monday, July 19, 2021 in the afternoon, the management of the University Hospital Center affirms that "the 4th pandemic wave is here and undermines the Martinique University Hospital" .
In this context considered "strongly unfavorable" the hospital is forced to deal with "exhausted teams, a period of leave (well deserved ...), a vaccination rate still far too low" . He had to reorganize. In 8 days, 65 dedicated beds had to be opened and 40% of resuscitation capacities were reassigned.
Despite the reinforcement of several staff in recent days, "the rapid increase in need will exceed the medical and resuscitation capacities of the CHU, to the detriment of the treatment of patients with other pathologies" fears the CHUM.
In its communication, the CHUM also encourages the population to be vaccinated, with optimistic arguments.
It remains to convince the "anti-vax", who generally believe that research does not have sufficient perspective on the serum.
Pending "vaccine immunity" that it calls for, the CHUM asks the population to "respect barrier gestures, it is fundamental to limit the risk of infecting us".
