Local Government Minister Hon. Richard Frederick and the incoming Mayor of Castries, Her Worship Geraldine Lendor-Gabriel has pledged to work closely to provide transformative change to the Castries Constituency Council and the City of Castries.
The pronouncement was made on last week Tuesday August 24, 2021 at a press conference to introduce the incoming Castries Mayor.
In attendance was Minister of Housing and Local Government Hon. Richard Fredrick, Permanent Secretary Dr. Cadelia Lane Ambrose, Officials from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government and the outgoing Mayor Mr. Peterson D. Francis.
Speaking at the ceremony, Local Government Minister Hon. Richard Frederick communicated that the objective was to facilitate the smooth transition of the Mayoral Office but also to take it to the next level with the new female Mayor.
“Her capacity is to harness the capacity of people, to transform them and continually improve them. Those are reflective of a grandiose appetite to make Castries a better place for all of us. I know we will work together Madame Mayor; she can lean on me because I will surely lean on you. Together with all members at the Castries City Council, with all team players, with everyone onboard we will make it happen for the benefit and betterment of all persons, said Mr. Frederick”.
In addressing the media, Her Worship Geraldine Lendor-Gabriel stated that in moving forward one needs to recognize that the Castries Constituency Council is grounded in the boundaries of transformation.
“It needs to be grounded within the context of what exists internationally. Communities and small businesses need to be engaged to take advantage of all opportunities”.
In addition, Mayor Lendor-Gabriel also spoke to the level of assistance which can be acquired through strengthened relations with local, regional and international stakeholders. The new Mayor believes that funding can be sourced through outside grants to realize the vision of the council.
She said this remains a very critical driving force in the developmental agenda and progression of the council.
For his part, the outgoing Mayor Peterson D. Francis while expressing gratitude to the public and business community for their support and serving in the role said much had been achieved but there was a lot more to be accomplished.
The engagement ended with a meeting with members of staff to speak of the new vision and direction of the Castries Constituency Council.
