Two fully vaccinated patients died in St Lucia

Medical Director at the Respiratory Hospital, Dr. Alicia Eugene-Ford disclosed at a press conference today, that two fully vaccinated patients died. Both patients had co-morbid conditions meaning they had covid but suffered with other illnesses.

Comorbidity is the presence of two or more conditions occurring in a person, either at the same time, or successively (one condition that occurs right after the other). Conditions described as comorbidities are often long-term (chronic) conditions.

Medical Director at the Respiratory Hospital, Dr. Alicia Eugene-Ford continues to say "If you look at our admissions, from February until present you’re looking at 1, 460 admissions and I am talking about persons who were sick and to be admitted. Persons who come to the emergency room that come in and the physician may decide they’re not sick to be admitted. You can go home on quarantine or you can go on home isolation. So that 1, 406 are actually from patients who are sick and admitted. Out of these, we have 20 fully vaccinated individuals. Out of that 20 we have, after the verification process, we have two recent deaths".

She explained that Dr Michelle did expressed that there is a process that one must go through to verify if the person had a covid related death or covid death.

The CMO explained, "That is two out of the thousands of cases that have gone through, these two persons did have other serious chronic conditions. It has to be taken in proper context and as we continue vaccinating, fully vaccinated people will die, of other things as well. It doesn't prevent you from dieing from something else".
