by WASCO
The Water and Sewerage Company Inc (WASCO) wishes to advise consumers and the general public that our infrastructure which supplies water to the north of the island was not severely affected by the trough system.
The following areas were affected:
Babonneau System:
Talvern Intake and Pump Station
The crew has commenced the cleaning-up process. All pumps had to be cleaned. Desilting of Intake and cleaning of filters have also commenced.
Marquis Intake:
Intake and pumps could not be assessed. The area could not be accessed due to the high water level in the river.
As a result of the above production of water at Hill 20 Treatment Plant is not possible. Work at the various intakes is expected to be completed by November 9th, 2022.
Meanwhile, WASCO will augment the supply of water into the Babonneau area by utilizing water from Theobalds treatment plant via the Morne Bocage system.
Theobalds Treatment Plant:
Vannard intake is clogged, and crews have been mobilized to begin the cleaning process.
The gravity source was clogged but has since been cleared.
There were no adverse effects at the John Compton Dam.
Anse la Raye
The Anse La Raye was not adversely affected. Intake has been cleaned.
Distribution:
Reports indicate that 90% of our damages were service lines and many meters were washed away, especially in the Corinth and Riviere Mitant area as a result of flood waters.
A 4-inch mainline was damaged along the Corinth Bridge opposite Ti J’s supermarket.
A 4-inch mainline was damaged on Marc Bridge by an Excavator during cleaning up of the river.
The south of the island was not adversely affected by the rain; however, the intake in Micoud had to be cleaned.
WASCO wishes to reiterate its commitment to restoring the supply of water to all affected consumers.
