West Indians Andre Fletcher & Johnson Charles Lead Defending Champs to SPL T20 Victory

A stroke field opening partnership between world class opening batsmen ensured a routine victory for defending champions South Castries Lions as they took on Mon Repos Pioneers on Saturday nights. In their opening match of the 2019 campaign, Grenadian Andre Fletcher hit 67 in just 44 deliveries, while Johnson Charles smashed 41 in just 16 balls as the Lions roared to 228/6 in their 20 overs. Towards the end of the innings, Corlinus Calendar hit 41 in 16 balls. For Mon Repos Jamal Lesmond was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 2 wickets for 18 runs in his 4 overs.

In response, the Mon Repos Pioneers were pegged back by the bowling of Keygan Arnold as they were bowled out for just 118 runs. Arnold had the amazing figures of 3 wickets for 23 runs in his 4 overs, while Xavier Gabriel was economical in his 3 overs. Gabriel took one wicket but only conceded 9 runs in his opening spell. Kester Charlemagne took 2 wickets for 30 runs. Kernan Henry top scored for Mon Repos with just 20 runs.

In the end South Castries won by 110 runs
