Windwards Off To A Positive Start In CWI Regional Under 15 Tournament

The Windward Islands Under 15 Cricket Team commenced the 2019 CWI Fifty Overs Competition in fine style as they recorded an impressive 8 wicket victory against the Leeward Islands.After being sent in the Leeward Islands were bowled out for 82 in 31 overs with Wilden Cornwall making 19 and Randel Longville 15.They were undermined by some impressive performances  by the Windward Islands bowlers, spearheaded by Grenadian,  Devin Tyson 3 for 6 in 6 overs, St. Lucian Kevin Gassie 3 for 11 in 5 overs, with one wicket each going to Shawnil Edward, Deshonte Thomas and Luke Wilson.In reply the Windwards rattled up the runs finishing on 83 for 2 in 19 overs. They were led from the front with skipper Divonie Joseph of Grenada scoring a well played undefeated 33 runs. He was assisted by Reshawn Lewis who was also undefeated on 14 runs.Bowling for the Leewards were Akadianto Willet and Nathan Edward with one wicket each.Devin Tyson was adjudged Man of the Match.

Windward Islands have subsequently made it two out of two with an emphatic win over Jamaica, winning comfortably by 5 wickets at the Coolidge Playing Field on Sunday 14th April 2019.Jamaica choosing to bat first was undermined by some steady bowling by their opponents as they were dismissed for 97 runs in 29.2 oversTheir main contributors were Steven Wedderburn with 37 runs and Julani St. Claire 15.Doing the damage with the ball were Grenadian Davin Tyson 3 for 9 in 5.2 overs, Vincentian Solomon Bascombe 3 for 32 in 8 overs and St. Lucian Shawnil Edward 2 for 21 in 5 overs.Chasing a victory target of 98 despite losing crucial wickets Windwards coasted to 98 for 5 with Stephen Abraham top scoring with 34, captain Divonie Joseph 15 and Reshawn Lewis 14.Jordan Joseph was Jamaica’s most successful bowler with 2 for 25.Solomon Bascombe of St. Vincent and the Grenadines was adjudged Man of the Match.

Windwards next match is against Guyana on Tuesday 16th April 2019.
