By Ministry Of Health
A team from the World Paediatric Project recently paid a courtesy visit to officials within the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs.
The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the collaboration between the World Pediatric Project and Saint Lucia and examine the future priorities for delivering pediatric care to the children.
Chief Executive Officer of the World Paediatric Project Vafa Akhavan spoke on the services provided to Saint Lucia since the commencement of the project in 2008.
“There is a tremendous commitment and we have been already more than 10 years. In those years particularly 2008, we have supported over 1, 700 children, we have done over 3000 assessments of those children and we have been able to provide 256 surgeries for these children in Saint Lucia. So, we have a history of commitment to Saint Lucia and we will continue that commitment into the future.”
Minister for Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs Hon. Moses Jn Baptiste says he is pleased with the work being undertaken by the World Pediatric Project to ensure surgical and diagnostic care is provided to the children in need of this service.
“This is a very valuable service for the people of Saint Lucia. A number of these services we can not do them in Saint Lucia and so when we get that kind of assistance, we are very thankful as a government, very thankful as a people and we will continue to work with them to ensure that all the services or procedures, everything that we have to do in Saint Lucia we do well enough so that the children get assistance as quickly as they need them.”
Since the commencement of the World Pediatric Project in Saint Lucia in 2008, the services provided are valued at over $66, 000 EC dollars.
The World Paediatric Project has provided the services of spine surgery, urology, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, neurosurgery and ENT to name a few.
